There is a webviewer included with the NW CVI DVR which would allow you to view it remotely from your computer, provided that your computer allows for access to Internet Explorer.
If you have connected the unit up to the internet via an ethernet cable, you should be able to enable remote viewing through:
- Going to the MAIN MENU
- Pressing NETWORK in the bottom left of the screen
- Navigating to TCP/IP (it should be the default screen after pressing NETWORK)
- Press the DHCP button
- Find the IP ADDRESS in the TCP/IP section, this is the local IP address of your Nightwatcher device.
- Type that IP ADDRESS into Internet Explorer (due to the plugin used, known as ActiveX, the remote viewing of a DVR only works with Internet Explorer, not Edge/Chrome/Firefox)
- A menu should come up with the Nightwatcher logo, asking your for your username and password - simply use the username/password you normally use to enter it, and you should be able to view your device from a local computer.
To view this screen from outside your local network, you would have to portforward the machine, the link on how to portforward your machine can be found here - https://nightwatcher.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360029933812-NW-CVI-CCTV-Port-Forwarding-Guide
When you first load this page, it should ask you to allow the use of the ActiveX Plugin, which is the plugin used by DVRs to play video. If it doesn't, then there may be a setting within your Internet Explorer options that has ActiveX turned off. To rectify this, do the following:
- Open Internet Explorer.
- Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
- On the Security tab, click the Custom level button.
- Scroll down the Security Settings list until you see ActiveX controls and plug-ins.
- For Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls, click Enable.
- Scroll down to Download signed ActiveX controls and click Enable or Prompt.
- Scroll down to Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins and click Enable or Prompt.
- Scroll down to Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting and click Enable or Prompt.
- Click OK, and then click OK again.
Then reload the page. It should now prompt you to hit 'Allow' on the ActiveX plugin, and when you login to the DVR, the live view should be functioning properly.
Note: If you're using a Mac, you should be able to still use this guide, though ActiveX doesn't come as standard with Safari, you can download the Mac equivalent which is attached to this guide. Simply run the .PKG, install the plugin and reload your browser.
